CRUN is an Open College Network (OCN) accredited centre and we can deliver a range of training to youth and community activists in the Causeway Area
Think Drink 55+ Service
Through this project, we have developed a range of alcohol awareness sessions which can be adapted to suit the needs of the group who have requested information and training in this topic. We can deliver sessions to community groups, practitioners working with older adults and any other groups who may work or volunteer with this client group.
We also have a Resilient Families programme which has been developed to provide family members with skills and information in how to cope if a family member has a problem with alcohol.
Community group training
We also provide training to community groups and youth groups to build their capacity to deliver their own projects and these include:
- OCN Level 2 Community Fundraising
- OCN Level 1 and level 2 Public Event Management
- OCN Level 2 Introduction to Community Development
- OCN level 1 and 2 Celebrating Diversity and Prejudice Reduction
- OCN Level 1 Active Citizenship
These are just some of the options groups can choose from and we endeavour to source other talks as requested by each individual group on a needs basis.
Our main priority target areas are those individuals/groups living in the highest areas of deprivation, parents, older people and young adults aged 18-25 years, those not in main stream education, cared for young people and NEETS.
YEAR
Youth Empowerment and Resilience (YEAR) project within CRUN also offers OCN Level 1 Driver and Car Safety which aims to enable the learner to understand driver and car safety. Learning outcomes for this course include:
- Understanding what is required to legally drive a car on the road
- Understanding the process of learning to drive
- Understanding the legal requirements for cars on the road
- Understanding the dangers of driving.
CRUN
CRUN is also a registered centre with the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health. The Chartered Institute of Environmental Health is at the forefront of environmental health. The CIEH is the UK’s leading awarding organisation that provides qualifications, events and trainer and candidate support materials on topics relevant to health, wellbeing and safety to develop workplace skills and best practice in employees, volunteers, business managers and business owners.
CIEH qualifications are designed to impart important safety skills, knowledge and understanding for the workplace. Our candidates represent a variety of industries including hospitality, manufacturing, retail, health care and the armed forces.

A holistic approach to drugs
We have also produced programmes for a holistic approach to drugs, alcohol and risky behaviour which also includes the accreditation as the Level 1 Community Drugs & Alcohol Awareness programme above including Just 4 Girls/Young Men /Young People and Just 4 Parents/Men/Women. We invite local partner organisations to come along as guest speakers on alternate weeks to the OCN. These talks include:
- Sexual Health – for young people asking questions in relation to their own sexual health and in relation to risky behaviours associated with drugs and alcohol misuse, sexual health for parents – how to talk to their children and keeping open lines of communication
- Keeping Safe – talk from Northern Ireland Ambulance Service on taking care on a night out and the impact that the night time economy has on the service
- Knife Crime and Anti-Social Behaviour
- Positive Mental Health and talking about depression and other mental health conditions
- Misuse of Prescription drugs and over the counter medication
- Pamper Session/Team Building – to build self-esteem especially for those living in high areas of deprivation
