YEAR Project

YEARYouth Empowerment and Resilience (YEAR) project is a five year intervention programme supported by a multi-agency framework to develop marginalised young people who are not currently involved in other youth provision to empower them to make key and informed lifestyle choices, funded by the Big Lottery.

We offer a range of courses both accredited and unaccredited including:

• CIEH Food Safety in Catering
• Cooking Skills
• Life Skills training
• Gaming
• CV development …. and many more

Volunteering

Young people volunteer their time freely to help support other organisations examples include wrapping shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child, Marshalling and giving out information at Causeway Youth Festival organized by Causeway Association of Urban Sports. We also register any young people who are interested in achieved a Millennium Volunteer Award, young people have achieved a variety of certificates for 50, 100 and 200 hours of volunteering.

Active Citizenship

Young people take part in a range of citizenship projects which has included cross community team building events, building a bird house for a local community garden project and workshop looking at diversity through dance, thanks to WOMAD (World of Music and Dance). Some young people achieved a Rotary Young Citizens Award for all their work in the local community both through volunteering and active citizenship.

Staff Training

In order to deliver a range of programmes to young people the YEAR team train regularly to keep up to date on areas that may be of interest to young people and learn some new skills along the way. Training has included Nerve Centre training, outdoor skills through Phoenix ADHD, High Ropes, Room to Race virtual racing, Cook it and Social Media training.

Celebration Events

As recognition for all their hard work young people help organise a celebration event to showcase the range of work and activities they have participated in throughout the duration of the project.  The events are attended by young people, parents, local Councillors and a range of other agencies. Young people are presented with certificates at the end of the evening. Young people then get the opportunity to attend an end of YEAR activity of their choice.
