Stage 1 Communities and Schools Together
Stage 1 of the project will operate across the 10 District Council areas of the Northern Zone and will work to connect 20 schools (10 Primary and 10 Post Primary 1 of each per Council area) and communities to address a number of issues impacting local councils such as educational underachievement, poverty, parental engagement, parenting support and employability.
Stage 2 COASTAL Call
This stage of the project will aim to establish 4 vibrant learning networks in Larne, Carrickfergus, Newtownabbey and Moyle to increase learning opportunities among the most disadvantaged and excluded communities in the Northern Zone.
The Project aims to develop interventions that have the twin objectives of enabling people to have the opportunity to achieve their full potential at the same time as improving their self-confidence and engagement in lifelong learning.
This will be done by addressing the following 3 themes: Enhancing and developing skills; Social inclusion; and Intergenerational learning.
Across the 3 years Stage 2 (COASTAL Call) aims to target 1,745 people to take part in 160 free non-accredited courses. The types of course which will be on offer through the project will be chosen based on community demand and will involve activities such as ICT skills training, crafts and first aid. It is also anticipated that half of these people (872) will go on to take part in further courses.
It is anticipated that through confidence building a number of people will progress from Stage 2 of the project on to further courses such as the “Learner Access and Engagement Programme” and then onto further education/training.
